How can geospatial data be collected, analysed and processed using AI? This is the focus of the knowledge and technology transfer project „WTT Geo & AI“. At the GameDays event at TU Darmstadt, Dorota Iwaszczuk, Professor at the Hessian Drone Competence Centre (HDCC) and head of the remote sensing and image analysis group at TU Darmstadt, presented the project together with Stefan Göbel, head of the Serious Games research group at TU Darmstadt, and Florian Horn, a research assistant in the Serious Games research group.

Drones are a key component of geospatial data collection: they provide detailed data for smaller areas quickly and flexibly. For example, using multispectral sensors or LiDAR, they can assess the condition of vegetation. AI-supported methods then analyse the raw data in real time by recognising objects, classifying areas and linking different data sources.

Through dialogue with stakeholders in the geosciences sector, this knowledge is put into practice as part of the WTT Geo & AI project via studies, publications, an information centre and events.

The aim is to highlight the potential and possible uses of geodata, as well as to showcase new AI-supported technologies and methods for collecting and processing geodata, as is the case here at GameDays. The WTT Geo & AI project is led by Dorota Iwaszczuk and Stefan Göbel.

The GameDays took place at TU Darmstadt at the end of September.
