At the moment, they are just individual scenes. But soon they will tell a story. The promotional film for the Hessian Drone Competence Centre at Kassel Airport (HDCC) is taking shape.
Filming for the HDCC’s new promotional film has begun over the past few days. In collaboration with Kassel-based filmmaker and photographer Sascha Mannel, the first shots were taken at Kassel Airport and at Technical University of Darmstadt.
Filming got underway at Kassel Airport in mid-July. Working alongside the airport team, researchers from TU Darmstadt and the company RotorKonzept, the film crew captured various drone systems in action around the airport. The focus was not only on the drones themselves, but above all on the interplay between research, testing and practical application.

Filming day at TU Darmstadt with researchers
The following day, the team headed to Technical University of Darmstadt. The film crew filmed the researchers, whose work focuses on areas including drone technology, artificial intelligence, communication and societal perspectives. The footage provides an insight into the scientific foundations on which the HDCC is built.
„With this film, we want to show what makes the Hessian Drone Competence Centre so special: research, testing, training and collaboration all work hand in hand to ensure that innovations find their way into practical application more quickly,“ says Michèle Knodt, Director of the HDCC and Professor of Political Science at TU Darmstadt.
The premiere of the promotional film is scheduled for 5 August as part of the ceremony to announce the funding awards at Kassel Airport.
